THE WANDONG PUBLIC HALL

THE WANDONG PUBLIC HALL

Wandong Avenue, Wandong  3758

The Old Wandong Public Hall located in Wandong Avenue is operated by the Mitchell Shire Council and a committee of management.

Following two years of renovations, the Wandong Hall has been re-opened for bookings.

The official re-opening was held on Sunday 22nd April and included a street fete and entertainment.

"We hope you made it to the opening of the Wandong Public Hall. The building looks fantastic and the new areas have blended in very well with the original. The designers did a great job melding the new with the old. There were a lot who attended on the day and it was a pleasure to officially open the hall along with Cindy McLeish MP, Member for Seymour. as the State Government through the Bushfire funding donated a large amount to this project. Others who donated included the Bendigo Bank Enterprise Fund and our own Community Bank in Wallan. Council was another contributor and project overseer. All should be congratulated on a wonderful outcome even if we did have to wait nearly three years for it to be up and running again but the results are worth it. Congratulations to all the Hall Committee for the untold hours they put in to ensure everything ran well especially Christine Gordon.

Originally built in 1902 the hall was first known as the Wandong Mechanics Institute and Free Library. A donation of timber from the Australian Seasoned Timber Company helped build the hall and it was the social hub of Wandong for many years with dances and gatherings on a regular basis. The hall celebrated it's centenary in 2002.
